Story Summary

Act 1: The Call of the Vaults

You play as a new Vault Hunter, recruited by Lilith and the Crimson Raiders. The story kicks off on Pandora, where you learn that the Calypso Twins Tyreen and Troy are uniting bandit clans into a cult called the Children of the Vault (COV).

Their goal? To open Vaults across the galaxy and steal the power inside. Tyreen, a Siren, can drain energy from people and objects including other Sirens and Troy, her twin brother, acts as her enabler and parasite (he siphons power from her).

Your job is to beat them to the Vaults.

Act 2: The Hunt Across the Stars

Thanks to a spaceship called Sanctuary III, you travel between multiple planets to find Vault Keys and stop the Calypsos:

Promethea

Home of the Atlas Corporation, under siege by Maliwan and the COV.
You meet Rhys (from Tales from the Borderlands).
You recover a piece of a Vault Key and help end the corporate war.

Eden-6

Swamp planet full of dinosaurs and family drama.
You assist Wainwright Jakobs (heir to Jakobs Corporation) and his fiancé Hammerlock.
You fight the COV and their local ally, Aurelia (Hammerlock’s evil sister).

Nekrotafeyo

The mysterious homeworld of the Eridians, creators of the Vaults.
You meet Typhon DeLeon, the first Vault Hunter.
He helps you unlock the secrets of the final Vault and the source of the Calypsos’ plan.

Act 3: The Calypso Power Grab

Tyreen and Troy are opening Vaults to absorb power and become gods.
Troy dies trying to siphon power from the final Vault, pushing Tyreen into god-tier territory.
Along the way, Maya (a Siren from Borderlands 2) is killed by Tyreen after she absorbs Maya’s power through Ava, her apprentice.
You finally face Tyreen the Destroyer, who fuses with the monstrous being inside the Great Vault revealed to be Elpis, Pandora’s moon.

Final Showdown: The Great Vault

The "Great Vault" is not a normal Vault it's actually Pandora itself. The Destroyer slumbers beneath its surface.
Tyreen attempts to awaken and fuse with the Destroyer.
You defeat Tyreen the Destroyer in a massive final boss fight.

Ending & Aftermath

Lilith sacrifices herself to stop the Destroyer, using her Siren powers to burn her brand into the moon and close the Great Vault.
Sanctuary III loses its leader, and Ava steps up to take Lilith’s place.
The galaxy is saved for now but there’s a big power vacuum and lingering questions about Sirens and Vaults.

Themes & Tone

Borderlands 3 balances absurd humor (streamer jokes, cult memes, toilet loot) with moments of real emotion, loss, and sacrifice.
There's a major focus on legacy, power, and what makes a hero with the Sirens' role in the universe becoming more mysterious and significant.

GENERAL

1. Elemental Damage Raw Damage

Use Fire vs. flesh (red health bars).
Use Corrosive vs. armor (yellow bars).
Use Shock vs. shields (blue bars).
Radiation is great for groups it causes explosions on death.
Cryo (slows and freezes) is awesome for crowd control, especially in Zane/FL4K builds.

2. Test All Weapon Brands

Each manufacturer has its own flavor:

Tediore – throw your gun like a grenade to reload.
Jakobs – critical hits ricochet bullets to nearby enemies.
Maliwan – charge to fire, but has powerful elemental damage.
Torgue – sticky explosive rounds. Great with splash builds.
Atlas – track enemies with homing bullets.

Try them all you’ll find some wild synergies with your build.

3. Use Your Action Skill CONSTANTLY

Action skills have short cooldowns. Use them on cooldown.
Skills scale with gear and build choices, so they're not just support they're core damage sources.

LOOTING & MONEY TIPS

4. Sell Smart, Not Everything

Don't hoard low-level purples and blues.
Sell gear at vending machines during missions to keep inventory clean and cash flowing.

5. Use the Lost Loot Machine

In Sanctuary III, this saves any epic or legendary loot you missed during missions.
Check it regularly you might’ve dropped something great without realizing.

COMBAT STRATEGY

6. Critical Hits Matter

Go for the head (or weak spot). Crits deal way more damage.
Jakobs and FL4K crit builds are especially powerful late-game.

7. Use Movement in Combat

This isn't a cover shooter run, slide, and jump constantly.
Many enemy projectiles are avoidable with quick movement.

8. Don’t Sleep on Grenade Mods
