Storyline Games Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is a reboot of the franchise, reimagining Lara Croft's origin story. It’s a gritty, cinematic survival adventure that shows how Lara evolves from a young, inexperienced academic into the iconic adventurer we know today.

The Premise

Lara joins an expedition aboard the ship Endurance, seeking the lost kingdom of Yamatai, an ancient civilization said to be located in the Dragon’s Triangle, off the coast of Japan. The crew includes her mentor Conrad Roth, best friend Sam Nishimura, and other researchers and explorers.

Shipwreck and Survival

A violent storm wrecks their ship, stranding them on a mysterious and dangerous island. Lara is separated from the crew and immediately thrown into a brutal fight for survival. She suffers injuries, evades wild animals, and encounters deranged cultists.

The Island's Mystery

Lara learns that the island is controlled by a violent cult called the Solarii Brotherhood, led by Mathias, a madman who believes in the mythology of Himiko, the Sun Queen of Yamatai. He believes Sam, Lara's friend, is a descendant of Himiko and plans to use her to awaken the Queen’s soul.

Himiko and the Supernatural

Himiko’s spirit is trapped on the island due to an ancient ritual gone wrong. Her soul cannot pass on, and every attempt at escape is thwarted by supernatural storms that protect the island. These storms are believed to be linked to Himiko's spiritual unrest.

Lara’s Transformation

Through intense physical and emotional trials including the deaths of friends and allies Lara uncovers ancient tombs, deciphers myths, and becomes a warrior. She ultimately confronts Mathias and disrupts the ritual to transfer Himiko’s soul into Sam, destroying Himiko's corpse and ending the supernatural storm barrier.

The End and Beginning

The island begins to collapse, and Lara escapes with the surviving crew. She is forever changed, declaring, “I’m not going home yet.” This sets the stage for her future as a legendary tomb raider.
